Visiting Vermont

This past weekend we went to Ludlow in Vermont. The weekend was organised by the place were Stephan is doing his internship, Smart Design. I met plenty of the very nice people who work with Stephan. Many of the people who work there aren’t originally from the US – there are people from Brazil, Australia, Denmark, France and probably a few more other countries – which made for lots of interesting conversation!

We started our days with a big communal breakfasts – we bought some flapjack mix, milk, Nutella and bacon and our housemates also brought a lot of breakfast ingredients (eggs, bread, butter, coffee etc.) and we were able to create delicious breakfasts for 6 people for all 3 the mornings we had in Ludlow. On Saturday (13 February) we went skiing at Okemo Mountain Resort. In the beginning I struggled a lot BUT after the class (the VERY VERY beginners class) I could go down the bunny slope (the easiest slope, yet very daunting if you are unable control your speed and turns) effortlessly. The trick (for me) is to wedge your ski’s (form a pizza slice with your feet) to stop and when want to turn, you turn your body and lean a bit more on the opposite foot of the direction you are going in .

Saturday and Sunday nights everybody got together and ate delicious food, regional Vermont sausage, taco chips, salsa, a home made pot of chilli, ham marinated in honey, green beans, baked potato, chocolate chip cookies and bread pudding. Sunday we also learnt how to play “Settlers of Catan“(BIG fans of this intriguing board game 😀 ).and had some of those really large pancakes (flapjacks in South Africa) for lunch.

Monday we drove home in the snow and had a real diner meal on the way back (hamburger and chips!). This was a very fun and certainly THE coldest weekend I have ever had!
